Maria was a research associate (pre-doc) at the Department of Communication as part of the project Migration-Related Risks Caused by Misconceptions of Opportunities and Requirement (MIRROR), funded by the European Horizon 2020 Program for Research and Innovation. Her research interests include media and migration as well as qualitative methods. She gained her Master's degree from the University of Vienna in 2017 with a thesis focusing on crisis communication and rhetorical analysis.
