Media Use and the Knowledge Gap

- Abstract
This entry provides an introduction to the knowledge gap hypothesis. Main findings are summarized and empirical measurement approaches are explained. The entry's main focus is then on the explanations for knowledge gaps that are related to media use. The explanations and related findings are presented from the perspective of three media use phases: media selection, media reception, and media effects.
