Uninhibited and full of hate? Communication on social media
Next to many prosocial and democracy supporting posts, also controversial, extreme, and hate-driven content can be found on social media. The lecture searches for explanations for this content and thus sheds light on characteristics of media-driven communication on social media. In this context, students can anticipate the challenges of social media, understand different regulation attempts, and reflect on their own consumer behavior.
The Speaker
Dr. Teresa Naab is a senior researcher and teaching associate at the University of Augsburg. Her research interests include media consumption and media effect studies, digital communication, and methods for empirical social science. She leads the DFG project "Reciprocal Sanctioning Among Users of Comment Sections" as well as the workgroup "Political Opinion Expression on the Internet" supported by the Center of Advanced Internet Studies.

Enthemmt und hasserfüllt? Kommunikation in sozialen Medien
In sozialen Medien finden sich - neben vielen prosozialen und demokratieförderlichen Beiträgen - auch kontroverse, extreme und hasserfüllte Inhalte. Der Vortrag sucht nach Erklärungen für diese Inhalte und beleuchtet dafür Besonderheiten der medienvermittelten Kommunikation in sozialen Medien. Vor diesem Hintergrund können die Zuhörer*innen Herausforderungen sozialer Medien abwägen, verschiedene Regulierungsansätze verstehen und ihr eigenes Nutzungsverhalten reflektieren.
Zur Person
Dr. Teresa Naab ist akademische Rätin an der Universität Augsburg. Ihre Forschungsschwerpunkte umfassen die Mediennutzungs- und Medienwirkungsforschung, Digitale Kommunikation sowie Methoden der empirischen Sozialforschung. Sie leitet das DFG-Projekt „Gegenseitige Sanktionierung unter NutzerInnen von Kommentarbereichen" sowie die vom Center of Advanced Internet Studies geförderte Arbeitsgemeinschaft „Politische Meinungsäußerungen im Netz".
