Summer of CCL Thesis Defenses!

29.07.2025

Huge congratulations to our lab member Noëlle for successfully defending her thesis!

On 2 June 2025, Noëlle S. Lebernegg successfully defended her dissertation, "Mediated Misperceptions and the Linguistic Structure of Deception." Her thesis explores the linguistic and stylistic patterns of disinformation through explainable machine learning, and examines how misbeliefs form and evolve over time using multiwave panel analyses.

Noëlle’s defense left a strong impression on her committee – including Annie Waldherr and Christian Baden – as well as on her supervisors Hajo G. Boomgaarden, Jakob-Moritz Eberl and Peter Tolochko. Their recognition highlights both the academic rigor and the broader relevance of her research.

One of her studies has already been published in Digital Journalism and can be accessed here: https://doi.org/10.1080/21670811.2024.2305792

We also warmly congratulate Noëlle on her new position as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Wageningen University & Research – a great next step in her academic journey.
