CCL welcomes Research Fellow Marta Cambronero Garbajosa!

04.04.2023

Marta is visiting the lab to work with Annie Waldherr on advancing her dissertation from April to June 2023.

Marta is a journalist and third-year PhD student at The Open University of Catalonia in Barcelona. She is part of the Communication Networks & Social Change research group and does research on user-driven networked practices in response to online hate speech in contentious media events. She mixes social network analysis and discourse analysis. Her objective is to explain some of the ongoing tactics on social media aimed at defending an accessible public sphere for everyone.

Collaboration interests:

  • Sharing empirical experiences on data collection and data analysis on Twitter and other social media platforms.
  • Having theoretical discussions about changes in the formation of publics/counterpublics and the media gatekeeping/framing processes in the current networked mediasphere, especially in light of the special difficulties of tackling the online hate speech problem without resulting in a reduction of freedom of expression.

You can contact Marta via e-mail at macambronero@uoc.edu and Twitter @fuina

We wish Marta lots of memorable moments, enriching collaborations, and positive outcomes for her dissertation during her stay in Vienna!
