Platform Governance – How Platforms Organize Communication and How They Are Regulated

Social media platforms have been playing the role of central mediators in human communication over the past 15 years. This is related to increasing controversy about how they organize communication and change dynamics through their business models and algorithms, and how they should be regulated. Christian Katzenbach's lecture offers an introduction and overview of the central debates about platform governance: How should platforms like Facebook and YouTube deal with hate speech and misinformation? How can platforms be held accountable in a regulatory manner without gaining additional power over content?
