Jakob-Moritz’s main research interests are the role of media discourses and media bias in shaping public opinion and in influencing political behavior. He now carries out research in the H2020 project REMINDER (Role of European Mobility and its Impacts in Narratives, Debates and EU Reforms), particularly aiming to map the media discourse on mobility and migration in Europe as well as to assess its impact on public perceptions.

Jakob-Moritz first joined the Department of Communication at the University of Vienna in May 2013 as a research associate (pre-doc) in the Austrian National Election Study (AUTNES) under supervision of Prof. Klaus Schönbach and Prof. Hajo G. Boomgaarden. From January to June 2016, Jakob-Moritz worked as research associate (pre-doc) at the Department of Methods in the Social Sciences and the Department of Government at the University of Vienna on a project dealing with the electoral connection between voters and their parliamentary representatives, supervised by Assoc. Prof. Markus Wagner.

In March 2017, he defended his doctoral thesis on "Media Bias in Political News Coverage: Revisiting Sources, Effects and Perceptions". His PhD supervisors were Prof. Hajo G. Boomgaarden and Assoc. Prof. Markus Wagner, while his reviewers were Prof. Sylvia Kritzinger and Prof. David N. Hopmann.
